i wish i had a really nice shading style like this, i really like the amethyst rock critter!

shading style? I assume you mean the way some of these were painted! practice practice practice and don't look at these crummy scraps for reference! paint things around you and try to match how the shading looks on them. go go go! that will make you "have" that "shading style".
thank you for the kind words! i was thinking more along the lines of purple blooded ginger-root-guy, but now that you point it out he does look very geode doesn't he.
